Ayurveda means the knowledge or science of life and is the full holistic medical system originating in India more than 5000 years ago. Ahara Rasa is translated as the essence of food. This is the energy we receive from the abundance we take in from the earth when we eat. The amount and quality of the Ahara Rasa is determined by the strength of our digestion and the quality of our food; and the quality of the Ahara Rasa determines how the cells in our bodies form and the strength of our bodily tissues. The Ahara Rasa is the all important essence that determines the quality of our body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda shows a direct relationship between the Ahara Rasa and the formation of the last of the tissues, the reproductive tissue. Therefore, the fertility of men and women is first determined by what they are getting from their food.
